Notes
Alex, Steven, Falon, Nate and two visitors were in Ituba for the new borehole commissioning exercise. They first moved around the village checking on the sanitation facilities in the homes. They visited several homes in the village and found out that many of the homes have maintained their facilities mostly the kitchens, pit latrines and bathing shelters. Also many of the homes do sweep their compounds and the compounds looked very clean in most of the homes that were visited. At 2pm the people gathered and the meeting started off with about 60 people in number. The LC1, Mr Kissim appreciated Kibo group for the help that has been given to Ituba people and most importantly the sanitation improvements seen in the village. There were a lot of people that didn’t have pit latrines and were doing open defecation before Kibo group came to the village. It was very common to see human feaces every where in the village but now you can barely find any open defecation in the village because now people have realized the importance of having pit latrines and why it’s wrong to defecate in the open. The new borehole has been highly appreciated from Kibo group in that many people benefit from this well including many of the people from the nearby Namuwondo village. All the people that turned up for the meeting were very happy and danced a lot to show their happiness with the Kibo group staff and visitors. In general the day was very good and people were happy to have their well officially commissioned since it was the first time in their village to have a borehole commissioning. The water user committee were reminded to be active and always plays their roles and responsibilities and also the water user committee secretary, David Nkuta read again all the borehole bylaws that the village formed and Alex reminded every one to obey and follow them or otherwise the village risk to have their borehole locked. Alex also reminded the village people that it was very important to mainatain the Sanitation and hygiene facility standards at all times and told them that if any chance comes that another new program from Kibo is coming to work with them, they should cooperate positively. The The government officials were unable to turn up but Alex had informed them earlier on and promised to attend but due to various reasons, they couldn’t attend. Jonathan and Falon’s mother , Trisa commissioned the well officially after a wonderful prayer from one of the church leader who asked God to protect their borehole from breaking down and to serve all the people for along time.
