- Notes
- Alex B met the members of Bupaluka and discuss about their project of the garden. The members had early proposed to grow maize, cassava and soybeans.
The members were undecided about what to plant because some wanted to grow since all crops had different advantages and disadvantages. This because of what they considered of like in terms of money like buying the seed, labour, time and how they can benefit out it individuals and a group.
chairperson of the group Saul Mutooto suggested to the members to come up with crops than can be intercropping and told the soybeans and cassava. He added on that soybeans when planted after three months will be harvested, and yet cassava will continue growing.Cassava takes a year to be harvested, and he added the second season they will plant other crop that can grow along with cassava. He suggested to them the beans since cassava will be scattered not to close.
Alex B advised them as soybeans and beans are leguminous crops they will help the soil to produce good harvest. He guided then to begin with soybeans since it will require them little for the seed and yet with high yield. The cassava to be planted before the soybeans but the lines should be wide enough. The second season they will able to buy the beans after selling the soybeans. They will have enough time to prepare the garden as they wait for rain and do the planting. The cassava will not affect the Beans since it will still short and scattered. The group will be able to in a year to harvest soybeans fast, beans second season and at the end also cassava.
He also asked them to avail themselves when they are need to provide labour and some little money to make their project successful. The rain should get the garden ready for planting.
The promised to work as a group to see that the garden project is profitable to the group. The members will be able to take the knowledge as they will be learning from the group project for personal benefit.
