Notes
Tom made a, visit to kisiro village to check on sanitation and hygiene improvements as well as maintenance. When Tom reached the village, he found some of the committee members at the meeting place waiting. It was very hot and they first decided to share with Tom about the state of sanitation standards in the village. Two members from the isamba section said their section had greatly improved as only two people are yet to finish there latrines. In the section always referred to as the councilor’s home, they said that the family now has three new latrines and are all being used well. In the trading center section, there has been slow progress but they were all happy for one village leader who has finished the latrine for his second home in the trading center. After sharing with the committee members, they decided to move around the section from the trading center towards the primary school. As they moved, they saw old latrines and shower facilities that have been improved upon as well as new ones under construction. In one home for namudama, she is yet to construct a structure on the latrine but she said she was waiting for her son who promised her to come and finish the latrine for her while her neighbor was collecting bricks to start the construction. In some homes opposite the primary school, they found a new pit still being dug. The lady said her pit would have been done but the people she had given the money had defaulted in digging the pit for her. She reported the case to the leaders to arrested the defaulters and now they have committed to finishing it. She was very thankful for the village leaders for taking action and helping her. In another home of an elderly lady, they found when she had started on the construction of the structure on the pit. Even though they did not find her, Tom and the committee members were very thankful and appreciated the work she has done. After moving on that side of the village, the committee members came up with a new list of homes that they need to visit during Tom’s next visit and after Tom left for jinja.
