- Notes
- Tom made a visit to kisiro village to check on Sanitation and hygiene improvements especially through the construction of sanitation facilities like latrines, shower facilities and kitchen etc. when he arrived in the village, he found when three of the committee members were waiting at the meeting place in the trading center. They met and together decided that they move in the section around the primary school towards the trading center.
They moved to the primary school and there behind the, school they found a home that had recently constructed a new latrine. The resident had for a long time had a pit but had not constructed on it. He thanked the chairman of the sanitation and hygiene committee for always encouraging him and advising him on having the latrine. From that home they moved to another homestead of about 6homes all of relatives. They had recently constructed another new lateness to make the number of latrines in the homestead to four. Only two homes now lack the latrines even though they are now sharing with their brothers.
Tom and the committee members encouraged the two brothers to construct their own facilities so that there homes are independent. They also moved to another home where they found a new pit under construction. The resident had lost his latrine due to a heavy storm and therefore he was working to reconstruct another latrine. Tom thanked him for being proactive when it comes to sanitation and hygiene. They after moved to another home across the road where they found a new latrine in another home as well as a new shower facility. The resident said due to the heavy rains, he was encouraged to start on a new latrine as the old one had started collapsing. His shower also had collapsed so he felt necessary to construct both facilities for his home. Tom and the committee members thanked him for taking the initiative to improve on his home. They requested him to also speak and encourage his neighbor who is yet to finish his latrine. Alongside the road, they saw improvements in shower facilities and maintenance. This is due to the rains that have collapsed most showers and therefore most residents are having to construct new ones to maintain their sanitation and hygiene standards. In general the village had 7 new latrines newly constructed as well as 3 new showers. After moving around, Tom left for jinja.
