- Notes
- Harriet made a surprise visit to Buyange community which was intended to find out whether participants use stoves on daily basis or not.
She was received by the Chairperson Healthy and Safe kitchen program Farida Nakaziba.Harriet asked her to walk with her to the homes so that she can inspect the stoves.
They walked home to home and walked through over twenty homes. It was realized that all the homes visited were cooking on stoves on daily basis and this was evidenced by the absence of three stone fire in the kitchens, even food was found cooking by itself in some homes or being attended by the children.
Participants told Harriet that the stoves have helped them to Safe fire wood since they now collect firewood once a week instead of collecting firewood on daily basis. They also said that they program empowered them with a skill of building stoves which they now use to raise some money as a group.
Farouk one of the members told Harriet that the the program helped them to improve on community relationship in a way that they use the saucepans they refused to lent them out to different parties and the money brought back to the group.
They also plan to buy and add on plates and cups on top of saucepans and lend them out.
