- Notes
- Suzan went to the village to teach the community members how to remove banana stems out of the old built stoves. When she got there, she found the members already gathered at the meeting place waiting patiently. They welcomed Suzan and together they sat down and discussed about the activity to be carried out that day which was agreed upon by every member.
They walked to the first home where the stove was previously built and entered into the kitchen. Suzan then began explaining to the members the importance of letting the banana stems stay in the built fuel efficient stove for one week before taking them out. And by doing this, would make the outlets (holes) stay firm because the stove would have dried up a bit by one week of building it.
Suzan went ahead and demonstrated how the stems were taken out while explaining each step to the members. She also encouraged the members to keep asking questions whenever they didn’t understand, for this would enable them learn the steps easily. After taking out the banana stems from the first stove, they proceeded to the next home and Suzan demonstrated once again by taking out the banana stems from the stove while the members stood and watched.
Finally the banana stems were successfully taken out from two fuel efficient stoves that day and the members were so grateful, thanking Kibo staff for the lessons taught that day and they also promised to practice taking out the stems in the coming week. Suzan thanked all the members for taking time to come for the lessons for this showed how interested they were in improving on their wellbeing. Together they agreed on the date and time that the next meeting would take place and Suzan left the village.
