Notes
Enock made a visit in this community to check on the progress of latrine construction, dish racks, kitchen areas, hand washing facilities, kitchen areas, clean compounds and use of rubbish pits. When he reached this community, Enock met with the local leader to start walking around the upper section and the centre. They visited homes which are still digging pits, visited homes which lost many latrines due to have rainfall and encouraged them to construct good standard structures which can last longer and withstand the bad weather. There are many newly constructed facilities although most of them are not roofed and they are so much affected during heavy rainfall. We have put a lot of emphasis on local leaders to take the lead in their community and mobilize, encourage and monitor all their fellow residents to construct good structures and improve of the sanitation. We continued talking about the benefits of all the facilities and talked about the challenges of open defecation and many diseases which are brought due to open defecation. On top Enock talked about the shame are not respected due to their poor actions of open defecation. I was so impressed to see an old woman who for a long time didn’t have a latrine and used to practice open defecation or use her neighboring latrine has now constructed a new latrine. When we asked how she felt owning one, she was super excited thanking the water and sanitation program for coming in this community. The rest of the members working towards improving their facilities were encouraged to construct using good materials which are strong.
