Notes
Introduction Manuela went to this school to teach about how HIV is transmitted and prevented from one person to another. Teaching pupils about how HIV can be passed from one person to another helps them to know how they can prevent themselves from catching the virus. Objective - By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to understand how HIV transmitted from one person to another. - By the end of the day, pupils will be able to know different ways through which they can prevent themselves from catching HIV Virus. Overview When Manuela reached the school with the visitors, they went straight away to the headmistress office, Manuela introduced them to the deputy and they signed in, after that they were lead by Manuela to Life Skills class, when they entered the class pupils were very happy to see them, Manuela requested the pupils to seat down after greeting them. After, Manuela asked the questions about the previous lessons that they learnt, pupils were able to tell Manuela that they learnt about the immune system and the Myths, facts of HIV/AIDs. After that, Manuela told the pupils that they are going to learn about how HIV is transmitted from one person to another, she started by asking the pupils how HIV is transmitted, pupils were able to share their ideas that through having sex with an infected person that is all they know. After that, Manuela told the pupils that for HIV Virus to be passed from one person to another there must be a portal of entry for example there must be a bleeding wound/ cut and an infected fluids, for example infected blood, semen, Virginia fluids and infected breast milk. Manuela went on and explained to the pupils that HIV can be transmitted through mother to child transmission, for example, through breast feeding, while pregnant and during birth, through accidents this can be at home and on the road, sharing sharp instruments and also through blood transfusions all this can happen with infected fluids.Manuela told the pupils to stop assuming that so and so is HIV positive or negative, but they should go for HIV test because that is the only way to know. After that, Manuela went on and taught about HIV prevention , Manuela explained about Universal precautions she told them that it means all people have the potential of becoming infected with HIV virus and there is need to be careful. She also explained that HIV can be prevented through abstaining from sex, avoiding to share sharp instruments, going for early HIV test, advising mothers to go to the hospital and give birth from there, transfusions blood must be well screened, avoid having unprotected sex with any body and mothers should avoid breastfeeding when they are HIV positive. Finally, Manuela encouraged the pupils to abstain from sex, and they should be more careful about their lives.
