Notes
Suzan, Tape,Jessica, Aubrey,Jennifer and Kari went to the village to teach the community how to build a fuel efficient stove. When they arrived there, the community was so happy to see them and ran towards them while singing and dancing. The program committee chairperson welcomed Kibo staff and the visitors to the village and after informing them about the activity as agreed before, he led them to a home where the stove was going to be built. The materials were already set on the ground and Kibo staff requested everyone to stand aside and watch as they measured and mixed up the dirt and grass. Later on, the members, Kibo staff and some of the visitors joined in stamping the dirt while singing and dancing until it got softer and ready for building the stove. It was then carried into the kitchen by the sides and Kibo staff took measurements on the kitchen floor while placing the two saucepans down in order to make sure they were at the right position. Kibo staff went out again and showed the community how the banana stems were measured and cut. Tape ,Jessica and Suzan began building the stove while explaining every step to the members because it helped them learn easily. The members also kept on asking questions just to make sure they didn’t miss out on any step. Towards the end of the building process, some members participated in smoothening the stove using the banana stems which was so encouraging to see and meant that they were willing to learn and improve on their kitchen environment. The community was so grateful for the lessons taught that day, promising to always attend the Healthy and Safe kitchens lessons and activities which would enable them improve in their general sanitation and hygiene around their homes. Kibo staff thanked all the members for coming to the meeting and participating in the building process, and then agreed on the date and time that the next meeting would take place. One of the committee leaders closed the meeting with a prayer and wished Kibo staff a safe journey back home that day.

Next Visit: 2019-08-05 - Purpose: Teach the members how to remove the banana stems from the fuel efficient stoves.
