On Tom’s visit to the village, he found when there was a burial taking place in the nearby village where most of the village leaders and residents were going to attend. But Tom was able to move around with some of the committee members as well as the chairman of the village.
As they moved around, they found a new latrine recently finished. They thanked and encouraged the resident on roofing the latrine. The resident said he was waiting on some one he paid to do it. The resident was also encouraged about hand washing especially by constructing the hand washing stand. His neighbor who is his dad has already constructed his hand washing stand. The resident said he was to build one as well as put cement on it. In another home down from this home, they found a resident when he had started on a new pit. The resident realized that the old latrine was getting full and did not want to take long before he started on a new one. Tom and the committee members thanked the resident for being proactive and not waiting to be told. He said he wanted 30ft and plans to construct it with cement. Tom encouraged him about that idea and thanked his for planning for his home even in the future as a permanent latrine would last longer. Tom and the committee members also were encouraging and teaching residents about hand washing stands. They were encouraging them to put a coat of cement on the hand washing stands to give them more durability. The committee members also committed to continue moving around to ensure that the program continues and moves forward.
Next Visit: 2019-08-07 - Purpose: To mobilize residents for the third evaluation
