Notes
Topic: Opening bank account and starting a savings project. Background: Prior to our visit, the residents of nabituluntu had finished registering their group with the district and were remaining with opening up the group account. They also had a proposal to start a savings project so Abraham and Chris went there to meet them and see a way forward. Overview: Abraham and Chris went to nabituluntu to meet with the community members to forge a way forward after opening a bank account and also advice them how to start a savings project. The number of members was overwhelming, the chairman started by updating the members about which level they have reached as a committee. The chairperson said they failed at their first attempt to open the bank account because they found that the terms and conditions would not favor them as a group so they requested Abraham to give them one more week as they look for a bank with favorable terms and conditions. The chairperson also reported that as a group they had decided to start a savings project, he said this will help members to save for rainy days and also develop a saving culture. He encouraged the community members to embrace this initiative because it will help to improve their income levels. The chairperson then welcomed Abraham to speak to the members. Abraham commended the members for being careful before opening the bank account, he encouraged them to look for the bank that will understand their dreams and aspirations. Abraham then invited Chris to advice the community members on starting the savings project, Chris first thanked members for embracing Kibo programs which aim at community uplift and also having a great plan to start a savings project. Chris encouraged the members to go ahead with their project because of a number of advantages. Chris said savings project is very simple and easy to implement because it doesn’t need a huge capital. Chris also said the savings project is transparent since all the rules and regulations are set by the members themselves. Chris also added that when the members start a savings project, members will find it easier to access loans with low interests on them. Abraham then concluded by encouraging the members to get a bank of their choice and open up their group account before our next meeting.
