Notes
This was a village leaders meeting with Kibo group to discuss about the current village sanitation status and discussing on a way forward to have the remaining households encouraged to meet the sanitation standards. This meeting was well attended by all the village leaders including the chairman LC3 of the sub county. All the village leaders first appreciated Kibo group for its efforts to help Kisiro village reach this sanitation status of the village that many of the village people are proud of. Before Kibo group came to the village 3 years ago, many of the people never had pit latrines in their homes and were defecating in the open. The majority of the people have been encouraged and taught by kibo group the importance of proper sanitation something that had never been in their village. During this meeting, many of the leaders agreed that Kibo has helped their village with all its efforts to Improve and that also the village leaders need to step up more to make sure the village sanitation is maintained and the few individuals remaining also complete what they are supposed to have in their homes. Some of the leaders had not been proactive but all of them agreed to work together in ensuring the village sanitation is maintained. Kisiro was indeed in a very bad state before Kibo group joined Kisiro village but the village now is at the level that many of the people are proud of and surrounding communities wonder what’s happening in Kisiro because of how the village has greatly changed. A few homes are yet to meet the standards of the sanitation and the leaders all vowed to work together and encourage those individuals to meet the standards too. About 15 homes have to be met and encouraged to have their pit latrines completed. Alex then told the leaders about the next plan from Kibo group to drill two wells in their village and the leaders were very happy to hear the news from Kibo group because for sure the biggest problem is water scarcity in the village as many people find it hard to get clean water for drinking. Majority walk for more than 2 km to one congested borehole and or go to the swamp to get water. However the remaining few homes have to be dealt with first before the water can be given. A discussion about what will be started where by the village need to be involved and participate during the whole process. The village leaders gave it two weeks to have the remaining people in the village meet the standards.
