Notes
Tom made a,visit to buluvu village to carry out the one year evaluation in the village. When he arrived in the village, he was welcomed by the vhts as well as some of the committee members on the Sanitation and hygiene committee. They met at one of the vhts home called Namukose. Also many of the village residents in the trading center were happy to see Tom and came to greet him and and thank kibo for the work it has done in there village. Tom asked them about the sanitation and hygiene levels in the village and they discussed of a storm that destroyed some latrines but they all said that those latrines had since then been dug and reconstructed. Tom shared with the vhts about his intent and it was a surprise visit. They said they could not move around as they had a,ceremony at the mosque and almost the entire village was gathering there. They requested that the survey be postponed to another day. They selected the Friday of the following week. Tom agreed but requested to move around a little bit. Three of the committee members offered to move around with Tom but no sooner had they started moving than it started to rain. They took shelter on the shade of one of the residents homes in the trading center. After the rain had slowed, they moved around and saw a recently constructed latrine with brick and cement. It was for a widow and the latrine was more expensive than her house. Tom asked her why she went beyond her limits to construct such a Latrine and she said it was because she wanted to do something better and of dignity. She was very proud of her new latrine. Also they visited another home and found that the residential reconstructed the Latrine after it was destroyed by the storm. Tom encouraged the residents to find a way of roofing their latrines as it was because of no roofs that the latrines were collapsing. Tom left after the rain was threatening to start again.
