Notes
Together with some of the village leaders and the sanitation committee members, they visited the homes that had completed new pit latrines and those that were still working. WASH has continued to encourage the people in Kisiro village to keep replacing their facilities that collapse whenever it rains hard in Kisiro village. The biggest challenge in Kisiro for a long time has been the sandy soft soils that collapse whenever it rains. However on a very good note, ,majority of the people have endeavored to dig up new pit latrines whenever they breakdown. This is a very good indicator of behavior change in the village. Many people testify good about Kibo’s encouragement and education about the importance of sanitation. All the leaders in the village and the sub county give a very good credit to Kibo for the efforts they made in Kisiro. Before Kibo started working in Kisiro, there was a very high rate of open defecation and was known as a village of people without pit latrines in the sub county but lately that has changed because of many people having pit latrines. WASH decided to put emphasis that every home uses a pit latrine in the village to eliminate open defecation in the village. Alex followed up on the homes that were still missing pit latrines and there were 15 new pit latrines seen in the village. For example a widow called Nakibogwe has constructed a new pit latrine and Musa Bombo. Also because of the recent rains, there were some pit latrines that collapsed two days ago and some people were met digging new pits so that they continue to have their own pit latrines amidst all these challenges of pit latrines collapsing whenever it rains. There is still a big out cry for water and WASH will introduce the discussion about water in Kisiro soon.
