Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Notes
Harriet made a surprise visit to this village and this was intended to assess the level of sustainability of the Healthy and Safe kitchen programs ( progress of smearing of the home facilities, stove building and usage) She walked home to home inspecting on the stoves and smearing. She found some people when they have smeared their stoves, some cooking on their stoves on daily basis. However they are some two people who were cooking on their stoves along side the three stones. When Harriet threatened them to destroy their fuel efficient stoves because they seem to have not shown the value of the stove and that’s why they were using three stones along side stoves. The members confessed that they were doing it out of negligence claiming that their children don’t know how to light the stove. They apologized before Harriet on behalf of kibo and admitted their mistakes , immediately they rushed and took out the three stones. Harriet also advised the parents to tell their children the dangers of cooking on open flames as well as teach them how to light them. Also as far as smearing is concerned some people had smeared their home facilities while other were still lagging behind and Harriet encouraged them to smear their facilities so that they can look neat and last longer. She also encouraged them to ensure that make sure that before new members get stoves they must have well smeared facilities for the program to be sustainable.
