- Notes
- Tape and Jessica went to the village to guide the participants as they built the fuel efficient stoves on their own. When they arrived there, they found the members gathered at the meeting place with their leaders discussing about the healthy and safe kitchens activities carried out so far and challenges faced.
They warmly welcomed Kibo staff and exchanged greetings and then Kibo staff divided the members into two groups to make it easier for each one to participate in the stove building. Each group which was led by Tape and Jessica
went to two different homes and began preparing the materials for building the stoves which was mainly carried out by the members as Kibo staff guided them throughout.
This was important because they needed to practice how to build the stoves on their own even after Kibo left the village. The groups fetched the dirt from the termite hill and carried it back to the kitchen compound whereby they took measurements of the dirt and grass while mixing it , then sprinkled some water all over it and began stamping the dirt together until it got ready for building the stoves.
Some members went aside and began cutting the banana stems, making five pieces which were going to be fixed into each stove. This was one of the most important skills that each person needed to learn at least because failing to level the banana stems well would make the stove poorly built.
Tape and Jessica kept on guiding and helping the members in building the stoves until they completed two stoves that day. The members thanked Kibo staff for the lessons taught that day and the meeting came to an end wishing them a safe journey back home.
