Harriet,Ida,Tape,Suzan,Jeska and Sarah went to Bukudumira to show some appreciation to the community members who participated in the Healthy and Safe kitchens program.
Along with them they carried a few gifts such as two big saucepans, and three boxes of washing soap which they would all share Incase they had any event within their village. Unfortunately when they arrived there, they found that there was a burial taking place within the village. The members informed kibo staff how they had lost one of their close relatives in the previous night and that most of them had left while others were preparing to go for the burial.
Kibo staff felt sorry for their loss that day and briefly held a short meeting with the members present at that time. Among the members were some committee leaders and the chairperson L.C 1 who welcomed kibo staff and then opened the meeting with a prayer. Each one in the meeting was given a chance to introduce themselves and then Harriet began thanking everyone for participating in the program activities.
She encouraged everyone to continue maintaining all their facilities so that they would live a happy healthy life with their families, as well as rebuilding the spoilt facilities such as the dish racks, kitchens, stoves, shower areas and latrines which were washed away by the rains.
Kibo staff went ahead encouraging the members not to lose hope in rebuilding their latrines and other facilities due to the heavy rains, for this would soon come to pass. Harriet then informed the members about the few gifts that they were going to receive as a sign of appreciation for accepting the healthy and Safe kitchen program which improved in their healthy lives.
The members were so glad to hear the good news and began dancing and singing while praising kibo staff. The gifts were then brought and handed to the program committee chairperson Mrs. Magret waiswa especially the two saucepans which they would all use whenever they had any event. Kibo staff with the help of other community members also began cutting pieces of soap and gave to some of the members present while the leaders kept for those absent.
The chairperson l.c 1 thanked kibo staff for the healthy and Safe kitchens program, saying it was such an educative program which has greatly improved on people’s lives especially the women who no longer suffered from various diseases caused by smoke inhalation. Kibogroup staff thanked the members once again and requested them to always maintain the same spirit of working together as well as to continue expanding the program to their neighboring villages for an effective development, and the meeting finally came to an end with a prayer from one of the members.
