Notes
While in igerera village, Tom moved on the lower section of the village to check on facility constructions especially dish racks. This section of the village had improved greatly in latrine construction but still lag behind in dish rack constructions. In the first three homes that Tom and the committee members moved in, there were dish racks but all below standard. Tom and two of the committee members guided the residents on the better dish rack models that they need to construct. They suggested to the residents to visit Mr Matia’s home to get some knowledge about dish rack construction from the model dish rack that was constructed in Mr Matia’s home. As they continued moving to other homes, they also checked on other facilities and they found three new latrines recently constructed. One of the latrines was constructed from brick and cement. Tom encouraged the resident to make sure that he roofs the latrine as it might collapse due to heavy rains. The other latrines were constructed of local materials and for one, Tom encouraged the resident to break it and extend the wall high as it was very short to be comfortably used. Tom also encouraged the residents to continue smearing the existing facilities as smearing strengthens the walls of the structure hence lasting longer. Tom I most homes he was also encouraging residents to visit the demo dish rack so that they can construct new ones for their homes. Tom also was encouraging residents to construct the hand washing stands. He also encouraged them to contribute money for cement that they can share and make better hand washing stands.
