Notes
Enock and Martin made a visit in this community to check on the progress of sanitation and hygiene. They focused on monitoring, evaluating, assessing, encouraging and guiding the residents on the importance and benefits of sanitation. They walked around teaching and sensitizing the residents about the proper standardization of the facilities, how to use good and strong materials, talked about roofing and why it’s so important to roof their facilities, emphasized on hand washing stations, values of having it, encouraging them to wash their hands before and after visiting the latrine. They also spoke about the dangers of open defecation and many disease which arise more so in this rainy season where most Children walk barefooted, diseases like cholera, dysentery are easily spread. Some people who lost their latrines where encouraged to learn from the past not to use weak materials while constructing and if they can buy some cement and sand will be good to make strong foundation to nod the structures. There are some new hand washing stations constructed, dish racks, kitchen areas, and some good latrines. During the visit we also noticed many people are spending their time in their gardens since the rainy season is still ongoing on. We encouraged them to also spare some time in their homes to develop and construct good facilities, encourage their children to also learn from them since the are the new generation. Martin taught the proper use of shadower areas, drainage and maintenance so that they can also improve on personal hygiene. The chairman and VHTs where left with an assignment to write down all members who want to buy the iron sheets and also explain to them the costs.
