Notes
While in ibaako village, Tom was joined by mr Richard and Kintu both committee members to move around the village to check on what residents are doing to improve on their sanitation and hygiene. They started off from the section of the village around the secondary school where they found a new latrine being g dug and in another home, they had started the reconstruction of the broken latrine. They encouraged the residents to use better bricks to reconstruct the broken latrine and the ones he was using were not good. In another home next to the second school they found a resident whose latrine collapsed but had reconstructed it temporarily. They advised him to start on a new latrine pit and construct a better latrine. The resident said he had already paid some one to start on the pit but it was due to the heavy rains that he had not yet started. After there, they moved to another section of the village to the lower section where they also found a new pit when they had constructed on the concrete floor. Mr Richard said they had advised the resident to first finish the latrine before he enters his house. They also said they want to promote that in the whole community to all residents with new houses. They moved another house of an elderly couple who do not have a latrine and they go in the open in the banana plantation. The old man was very ashamed that he did not have a latrine and said he was going to call one of his sons to come and help him construct a,new latrine for his family. They also moved in other homes where they encouraged residents to improve on their facilities as well,as,others to start new facilities. One of the committee members miss Atim said they are going to continue moving around the village sensitizing residents about sanitation and hygiene improvements and maintenance. Tom also encouraged the committee members to actively continue moving around the village reaching out to residents who do not have facilities so that they can improve on their sanitation and hygiene.
