Alex went to meet with the water user committee and conduct a training about their respective roles and responsibilities towards their borehole. Each member needs to understand the respective roles that he/she has to play to be able to take good care of their borehole. The chairman of the water user committee, Mr. Kirya Moses expressed his fear that the village would not drink water soon because many of the committee members have left all the big job to one or two people . The village needs to be mobilized to contribute more money to buy the necessary materials and cement to build the fence around the new well. This job is very hard if all the committee members don’t work together and therefore Alex encouraged them to work together and also told each of them the respective roles to play as water user committee member. The treasurer has to handle all the funds for the well and also make sure that the money is shown how it’s spent. Alex was also unhappy that none of the materials had been got because the water committee hadn’t played its part. He assured them that until the village meets all the requirements, they will not have their well opened to start using the water. The village people from the start of the year have been engaged by the government to clear the big swamp as the government plans to construct a new road connecting Namutumba district to Butaleja district and Tororo. It’s the people of Kisiro men, women and children that have been given the job to slash and clear the swamp. So people are very busy now and the focus to get everyone contribute some money for the well has been quite hard. After the brief meeting with some of the water user committee members, they promised to engage all the people by working together and get all the money to buy all the building materials for the wall fence since many people are still finding it hard to get clean water because of the congestion on one well and others walking a very long distance to a clean water source. Alex will go back to guide the community as they plan to start to build the wall fence.
