Notes
When Tom arrived in the village, he was joined by three committee members who took him around the village to check on what residents are doing to improve on there sanitation and hygiene. They started off from the chairman’s place who briefed them on the state of some homes before they moved to the lower section. The chairman report about his neighbor who recently finished the concrete slab on the new pit and told him that he was going to start the construction. He also gave a report about one resident who also recently finished his latrine as well as a new shower facility. As they moved around. They visited the home of an elderly man whom they found that recently finished his latrine. He said he was so happy to finally have a latrine in his home. He said he was also going to encourage one of his sons to construct him a shower facility. As they moved to the lower section, they reached a home of an elderly woman who also finished the digging of her new pit for a new latrine as well a new dish rack. Tom thanked the son to the elderly lady for helping her get a latrine so that she can live in a good health environment. He said he was also going to construct for her a shower facility as she does not have one. Tom and the committee members also encouraged residents about the construction of hand washing stations so that hand washing is improved upon in there homes. After moving around, Tom and the committee members sat at one of the residents home’s to discuss about the issue of iron sheets. Tom advised and encouraged the committee members to continue reaching out to the residents to contribute the money. One of the committee members raised an issue that residents thing the iron sheets will not be given to them as they have never seen an organization give iron sheets for only that percentage. Tom encouraged the committee members to continue engaging the residents so that they can believe and trust kibo. Tom also encouraged the committee members to continue reaching out to residents on the construction of other facilities and also to maintain the facilities well.
