Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Tape went to the village to monitor the progress of the healthy and safe kitchens program such as the smearing of the buildings, stove usage and the maintenance of the latrines, shower areas, rubbish pits, kitchens and dish racks. When Tape arrived there, she found some of the members already gathered at the meeting place with their leaders. She was happily welcomed to the village that day, and after exchanging greetings, they agreed to first walk around the village and monitor each member’s facilities. On their way, Tape observed that some buildings like the kitchens, main houses, bathrooms and latrines were not well smeared and the logs were easily seen which was very dangerous. Some stoves were not cooking because they were built on the poor wind direction. Later after, Tape requested the participants who had good stoves to assist their fellow members in identifying the right wind directions so that they would build new stoves. She also encouraged them to see that they smeared all their buildings so as to avoid cracks, insects and the rains from destroying them, as well as constructing better movable dish racks. Each of the members was also encouraged to have or build a high raised firewood storage in their kitchens especially in times of scarcity. Saving firewood also saved time for other educative activities. The members thanked Tape for the good advice given, promising to always work together as a team for an effective development and the meeting came to an end.
