Notes
When Tom arrived in the village, he found when the chairman and the committee members were waiting for him at the meeting place. Tom was welcome and before doing anything, he encouraged the members on the civic guidelines especially the social distancing and the washing of hands. The chairman brought water and soap and every one in the meeting washed their hands. Tom also gave them the masks that kibo has provided and they were very happy and thankful. Tom started off by thanking them for the work they have done during the lockdown in sanitation improvements as well as efforts to control and prevent the spread of coved 19. During the short discussion about covid, the committee members put in requests for soap and sanitizer. They said the government had promised them but they are yet to see the soap and sanitizer. Tom encouraged them to take the prevention of the disease as their first priority and that it starts with them. Tom said waiting for government’s soap and buying it your self can be the determining factor between life and death. So they were encouraged to buy soap for their homes as they wait on the government soap. Tom also encouraged them to put up preventative measures at the boreholes especially putting their hand washing stations. On the issue of sanitation in the village, the committee members said the village has improved and the chairman said that residents from the neighboring village have come up to Igerera A to borrow pick axes to use to dig their latrines. Tom was very happy and encouraged the committee members to continue encouraging those that are still remaining. The committee members are very receptive and thankful for kibo going back to the village and they are ready to work and improve on their village. Tom ended by encouraging them to always promote the prevention guidelines in the village to prevent the spread of covid and that if they had any other questions concerning the disease they can inquire from the government.
