Notes
Alex met with the two sanitation committee members and the village chairman to follow up on sanitation improvements in the upper part of the village. They moved home to home checking on all facilities and teaching about the new hand washing stand to promote hand washing in the village. On a very good note, majority of the people admired this type of hand washing facility saying it’s easy to construct and maintain. The sanitation committee has committed to promote this type of stand in the homes. They are even willing to help guide the people how to build this type of hand washing stand. The village chairman and the parish chief continue to thank kibo group for what so far has been done in Butabira village. Some of the nearby villages have started to learn from Butabira like constructing the new design of dish rack and other facilities required in a home. There is a general positive response from this village and many of the homes have so responded well by digging new pits and others calling Alex to show him what they have so far done in their home with pride something which shows that they love and own the program. Alex took a new pick axe replacing one which broke down a few months ago and yet there is a very great demand for pick axes. Those that had completed digging new pits have started constructing on them. Alex and the parish chief encouraged the sanitation committee to continue with home to home visits encouraging everyone to work on these sanitation facilities and also their borehole is at the verge of breaking down because a lot needs to urgently be replaced. Alex encouraged the water committee to be very active in ensuring that people pump this well with a lot of care to prevent the borehole from breaking soon again. The village always come together to fix it whenever it breakdown but on a temporary basis to keep getting some water as they wait for the time when kibo can partner with them to replace all the parts before reaching a permanent solution. Alex and WASH staff shall continue to go back to continue sensitizing the community going home to home teaching hygiene and sanitation good standards.
