Notes
Tom and the health assistant visited the village of Mpumiro to meet with th committee members as well as make a follow up on some facilities. When they arrived they were welcomed by the chairman and the committee members and also gave a brief report about the program of sanitation and hygiene where the chairman said he was very thankful and appreciative to kibo for the work that had been done in the village as regards sanitation and hygiene. The chairman also said that he is now very happy and proud that his village has improved greatly in sanitation and hygiene standards. After the health assistant shared with the chairman about the efforts in preventing the spread of covid as well as other diseases. He encouraged the chairman and the committee members to continue encouraging the residents to sleep in the newly distributed mosquito nets. After the meeting, Tom, the health assistant and the committee members moved on the upper section of the village checking on improvements made in sanitation and hygiene as well as facility constructions. They saw new dish racks and latrines under construction. For the facilities below standard, the resident were encouraged to construct better facilities with better materials. The health assistant was also emphasizing the construction of hand washing stands and the practice of hand washing to prevent diseases and the spread of covid. They also visited one specific home were residents have been very rebellious to the program. The health assistant spoke to the resident to work and improve on the sanitation and hygiene of their home as its the only way they can prevent diseases. He also taught the residents in that home what the laws of the government are in relation to sanitation and hygiene. He said he does not want to arrest anyone but rather he wanted to teach them the value of good sanitation and hygiene. After the members of that family agreed to work and one person requested to be given two weeks to harvest his rice to that he can sell and pay someone to dig the pit for the latrine. One member offered to dig the rubbish pit and construct a dish rack.
