Notes
Alex W, Henry Oyier and Akurut Diana met with the village leaders and the water user committee members for the two boreholes in Igerera B village. Together they went to look at the new borehole wall fence , a new idea that Kibo group is promoting in the village to construct a fence around their boreholes. The village worked together with guidance from WASH to come up with this new borehole fence. It has since become a tourist attraction in the village as many people from the surrounding villages come to see how this kind of fence was built and also replicate it in their village. Alex together with the team met with the leaders to encourage them to continue working together to get the required materials to build a wall fence around their second village well. During this meeting, the kibo country director expressed his appreciation to the village leaders for working hard and setting an example for many other villages to see. Igerera B village in many ways has done a good job and this was to continue encouraging the leaders not to give up but rather remain very responsible and active towards all the programs in the village. The village had earlier requested kibo group for support towards building another fence on the old well and repair. Alex together with the team thought it was important to push the village to work more and see what they can do towards getting the materials to build the wall fence and contribute towards what is required for the borehole repair instead of relying on kibo group for more. The chairman of the upper borehole told the meeting that all the 1600 bricks have already been secured and next the village is being encouraged to get the sand and contribute some money towards buying the cement. This village is one that has challenged many other villages to do things because of their good leadership and kibo group still feel the village can do more for themselves in a sustainable way. The water user committee members promised that they will continue to mobilize all the water users for the rest of this month to see what the village has come up with towards their borehole repair and maintenance and seek for guidance from kibo group. WASH will keep in touch with the sanitation committee members on how the village is responding towards contributing money for the borehole wall fence and the repair for the whole month of August.
